SANCRED-COMMUNITY PARAMEDIC TRAINING INSTITUTE (CPTI)

Project started in January 2014.

Community Paramedic course is a two-year course designed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) through National Institute of Population Research and Training (NIPORT) [now Bangladesh Nursing Council (BNC)] for creating an additional health work force in the healthcare system. Bangladesh has a large population of around 151.4 million where about 75% of the population lives in rural areas. Limited access to quality healthcare is one of the major problems faced by the people in rural Bangladesh. There is acute shortage of skilled health service providers in rural areas. There are only 0.58 qualified health worker per 1,000 populations (WHO standard 2.5 per 1,000 populations). Neonatal mortality is still high; 32 per 1,000 live births. Only 22% of children receive appropriate care within 24 hours after birth. 76.6% of births still take place at home. Though Government has wide spread network of service delivery facilities but those are not enough for the highly populated country.

Sunamganj is situated in the North-East part of Bangladesh and it is closely bounded on the North by Garo Hills of Meghalaya. Being a district of haors and boars especially for Tanguar hoar the infrastructure development is not enough here. Early marriage, drop out of school going children, proper health care service, sanitation, lack of job opportunity, malnutrition and maternity and new born mortality are the main issues of the District. Extreme population growth, lack of job opportunity and low income level are the main causes of malnutrition, maternity and new born mortality. These are the main barrier for development. In order to remove and short out of the issue of health care service Sancred Welfare Foundation (SWF) already established a Community Health Service Center and Hospital with 10 beds,in Sunamganj. As a continuous initiative ensuring the proper and enough health care service especially in the rural part of the District Sancred Welfare Foundation established the Community Paramedic Training Institute (CPTI)

As an effort to address the mentioned situation, Sancred Welfare Foundation (SWF) has been initiated to start a CPTI from 2014 attaching with its hospital building at Adjutant Nabinagar, Darargaon, Sunamganj Sadar, Sunamgonj District to build up a professional, skilled and trained Community Paramedics team.
