The literacy rate in haor area of Sunamganj district is very low than any other areas of the country. The number of school going children is low. Most of the time of a year schools remain closed due to many reasons. In order to promote the literacy rate in haor areas SWF implemented functional literacy program from 1997. Under the Program, SWF employed efforts to build up people’s awareness of their rights, to build up their financial capacity, to help them find out strategies for their sustainability, to help them develop their leadership and protest against injustice and to increase the number of school going children.

At present SWF has been running non-formal education in small scale. The school program is managed by the respective community people. The fund is not available but in this area the children education is more needed. We have some fund for this program to set up or build a school building from Normisjon.
